Voluntary Service Overseas in the Solomon Islands introduced Tony to construction
at the impressionable age of 17. After a BSc degree with commendation and distinction in building at the
Brixton School of Building (now London South Bank University), he worked for various contractors and clients in the UK, Africa and Middle East. He was project manager of the Minster Court development with Bovis and the Prudential before joining Argent in 1989.
Tony became an Executive Director of Argent Group PLC in 1997 and was responsible for the delivery of over £1.2bn of construction at Thames Valley Park, Green Park in Reading, Brindleyplace in Birmingham, Piccadilly Place in Manchester and more recently the redevelopment of the 67 acre site at King’s Cross in London. Quality, time and cost controls were all absolute givens. As were team work, repeat business and no legal disputes.
Tony was Chairman of the Design and Build Foundation from 2001 to 2003 and a leading instigator of the new ‘Be’ organisation representing over 2,000 members of the built environment. He has served as a Board member of the BCO and is a Trustee of the construction industry charity, CRASH, and also a non-executive Director of T Clarke. He is currently advising on the design, procurement and delivery of two major projects – one a private residential development and the other in the public sector.
Tony was awarded ‘Personality of the Year’ at the 2015 Building Awards.
